From the Brother site, I can download both the PP12 and PP14 exe files. The issue with PaperPort is that the download exe file from the Brother site is apparently NOT the actual PaperPort install, but maybe just an exe file to download the actual Paperport software from another site. I have no idea how to get "a working TWAIN driver". However in NAPS2, the only option once I connect the printer/scanner USB cable to the computer is "WIA Driver." "TWAIN Driver" remains greyed out. Since it is open source it may be an even better, more BH type option than Paper Port, as I can presumably continue using it with any scanner! Yes, I downloaded NAPS2, and it seems to work reasonably well so far. Is the issue that the PaperPort program didn’t work or that the Windows driver didn’t work? My assumption is that a scanning program like NAPS2 expects a working TWAIN driver. However I occasionally need a home printer, and don't have space for 2 machines, so until someone comes out with a very compact sub $200 multifunction color laser printer/scanner, I'll keep the hardware I have - I'm seeking just a software solution).
(Note: I'm aware of the recommendations to get a dedicated scanner that comes with it's own software. Is it safe to buy PaperPort 14 off of ebay, as long as it comes via a CD (as opposed to download)? Will PaperPort 14 upgrade to PP 14.7?
So what software do the scanning BH's recommend? Should I just buy PP14, or is there a better solution?
Although Kofax still sells PaperPort 14, it does not seem to be its focus. I started to simply buy PaperPort 14, until I realized PaperPort 14 was released about 10 years ago, and the company that made it (Nuance) has since been acquired by Kofax. I also learned Brother won't let me download PaperPort 14, as that did not come with my printer/scanner.Īs a result I need to acquire a scanning software solution. Setting up a new Windows 11 computer, I learned PaperPort 12 is incompatible with Windows 11, and thus won't install. Following the advice from other threads, my scanning solution has been a Brother multifunction printer/scanner, using PaperPort 12 scanning software that came with the printer/scanner, which OCR's all scanned documents.
